
Call for Applications: Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) 2025
The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program, funded by the Government of Canada, provides short-term study and research opportunities for students from ASEAN member states at Canadian post-secondary institutions. This initiative supports the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, fostering people-to-people ties between Canada and the Indo-Pacific region and contributing to poverty reduction and sustainable development across ASEAN.
Program Overview
- Eligibility: Open to undergraduate and graduate students who are citizens of an ASEAN member state, including the Philippines.
- Scholarship Value: CAD $10,200 for four months (one academic term) of study or research.
- Duration: Fall Term 2025 (September – December 2025). Students may begin as early as August 1, 2025, and no later than October 1, 2025.
- Institutional Collaboration: Scholarships are facilitated through partnerships between Canadian post-secondary institutions and their ASEAN counterparts.
University of New Brunswick (UNB): SEED Scholarship for Exchange Students
The University of New Brunswick (UNB), in partnership with ASEAN institutions, invites eligible students to apply for the Canada-ASEAN SEED scholarship. This program provides financial aid from the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) to support student exchanges under the ASEAN SEED initiative.
Next Steps:
Students must complete the required ASEAN SEED documents as listed on the CBIE website and submit them to UPLB OIL via email by Monday, March 10, 2025.

Dalhousie University: Research Opportunity for UPLB Master’s Students
Dalhousie University, in collaboration with UPLB, invites applications for a 4–6 month research opportunity in Canada, starting September 2025.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a Master’s student who has completed the first year of coursework and has not yet started research.
- Research interest must align with agriculture, food security, or development challenges.
Application Requirements:
Interested students must submit a one-page letter of interest, including:
- Personal Statement
- Summary of education (past and current)
- Research area and relevance to food security/development
- Reasons for studying in Canada/Dalhousie University
University of British Columbia (UBC): SEED Scholarship for UP Students
The University of the Philippines has been invited by the University of British Columbia (UBC) to nominate eligible undergraduate and graduate students for the Canada-ASEAN SEED scholarship.

- Valid Philippine Passport (bio-page copy)
- Signed Privacy Notice Statement
- Letter of Intent addressing:
- Nature of study/research
- Rationale for studying in Canada and relevance to future career
- Contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
- Plans to use learning to address ASEAN development challenges
- Identified Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) alignment
- For candidates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam: How studying in Canada will help combat poverty in their home country
- For graduate students: Letter of Invitation from a UBC faculty supervisor
- Current Official Transcript or True Copy of Grades
- Certificate of English as Medium of Instruction (from the University Registrar)
- Proposed Course List 2025/2026 (UBC Template)
- Additional documents as required by UBC faculties/departments

Financial Considerations
- Scholarship funds are disbursed after students arrive in Canada.
- Students should have sufficient funds for their flights and initial six weeks of stay.
